A Place Where People Meet
The site sits at the edge of the commercial district, and this building aims to reach out to citizens as another piece of public architecture, following the police station and post office already established there. While embracing the passion and joy characteristic of the commercial district, the building’s goal is to become a space that all citizens can enjoy publicly. Carrying a narrative distinct from the surrounding shops, a building of a special character takes its place here.
The market spanning the first through third floors becomes a stage where young people can pursue their dreams. Here, people buy and sell food, share culture, and speak of joy. On festival days, the ground floor opens wide toward the specialty street and the pedestrian street, and the market’s reach extends out into the street, coming alive at two or three times its normal size.
On the upper floors, communal cooking classes bring residents together, allowing diverse food cultures to blend naturally. Vertical green is installed on the southwest-facing balconies and terraces, creating natural shade and revealing the building’s character as one that embraces nature. The rooftop, used as both a resting space and an event space, is fitted with pergolas to provide yet another layer of green shade.
The building’s vertical circulation core anchors it structurally, while light canopies drape over the street-facing façade. People come and go, seasons change, and summer and winter pass by the building’s side. In this way, it becomes a space that naturally weaves itself into everyday life.
It is said that the kitchen is always where people share their most honest conversations. Beyond simply being a facility placed along the pedestrian street, this building becomes a place where encounters, exchange, and community relationships form naturally.
